Standing with Saguaros is series of site-responsive performances and activities in Saguaro National Park and Tucson celebrating the saguaro cactus. A collaboration between Borderlands Theater and Saguaro National Park, it is an “Imagine Your Parks” with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts in honor of the National Park Service’s Centennial.
The project occurs in 3 Acts:
ACT 1
#IStandwithSaguaros: Stand (or sit) for an hour (or less) with a saguaro cactus in Saguaro National Park or anywhere a saguaro grows. If you stood with a saguaro for an hour, what would you learn? Post your experiences online to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram using the identifying marker: #IStandWithSaguaros.
ACT 2
Story: Hear about the saguaro as icon, ancestor, food source, shelter, ecological marker, friend, fellow community member on The Saguaro Minute radio podcast on KXCI Community Radio. Share your own saguaro stories and learn about this amazing plant at our interactive gatherings, including a saguaro fruit harvest.
ACT 3
Celebrate: A site-responsive immersive theater experience and “day at the park” blending story, song, poem, and dance in celebration of the saguaro cactus, performed outdoors by an ensemble cast in Saguaro National Park West.
